About
The circular walk from Holyhead town over Holy Mountain (Mynydd Twr, 220 metres) and back via the coastal path is one of the most rewarding short hikes in North Wales — a 4-mile loop with 360-degree views stretching from Snowdonia to the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland on clear days. The summit carries the remains of an Iron Age hill fort, and the descent via the Anglesey Coastal Path passes seabird cliffs where choughs and peregrine falcons hunt across the cliffface. Allow 2–3 hours for the full circuit, bring a windproof layer regardless of the forecast, and pair it with South Stack on the return.

Frequently asked questions
Can I see Ireland from the summit?
On clear days, yes — the Wicklow Mountains are visible from the summit of Holyhead Mountain. You can also see the Isle of Man and the Llŷn Peninsula on exceptional days.
Is it a difficult walk?
Moderate — the ascent is steady but not technical. Good footwear is essential as the paths are rocky in places. Suitable for fit walkers of all ages.
Can I combine it with South Stack?
Yes — South Stack Lighthouse is on the western side of Holy Mountain. The circular walk can easily take in both the summit and the lighthouse in one outing.
